"Joy is the serious business of Heaven." C.S. Lewis
In America, there are children who do not know how to work.
In Nepal, there are children who do not know how to play.
Thankfully, this organization's children’s homes are places
where kids can be kids. Today (Monday),
we visited the children who live at one of the homes in Pokhara. Most of the
children at this new home (it opened in February) are very young. Because many
of them come from rural villages, they speak a local dialect instead of Napali
or English. Even though we couldn’t speak the same language, our time there was
delightful!
I am super impressed with the way this household is run. It
is colorful and organized, and the parents are extremely loving. The contrast
between the street children and these kids is amazing. These kids get to act
like kids! We taught them “Down by the Banks of the Hank Pank,” played monkey
in the middle, and just acted silly with each other. The mirth we experienced is
special because these children weren’t always this joyful. Not very long ago, their
situation was very similar to that of the children I saw in Kathmandu. With a
few months of loving care, however, they are sweet, well-behaved, silly (in a
very good way!) children.
While none of the children in the these homes were victims
of trafficking (when possible, this organization returns victims to their families), these
children had immense need. Street
children and orphans are also at high risk for trafficking; consequentially,
sponsoring a child is one of the best ways to prevent that child from being
trafficked.
