I have had several people ask me lately why I don't like having my picture taken. Below is my explanation.
Don't take my picture
I am the wind
you can draw the things I touch
but you can't envision me
Don't take my picture
I am the earth in motion
spinning beneath your feet
the camera won't capture me
Don't take my picture
I am a living, breathing thing
and photos only reflect
a broken outward shell
Don't take my picture
I am the wind
the earth in constant motion
a living breathing thing.
To have my picture taken is to place me in a vulnerable position. I am stuck in time unable to move forward or backwards. I am still. A picture only represents what you can see- the way I look. But this is not really me. What a mirror reflects or camera copies is not really me. That isn't how I really look. It is a shell, protecting my somewhat raw and crude inside. and that inside: that is me.
Note: I am not denying physical reality. Although it might be fun to try. :)
