Preparing is a Purpose

I live in a world where people do things. Not just little things like eating, working and laughing with family: big things. I live in a world where people fight injustice, find cures for diseases, and even try to control the climate. Some of these things may be for the better, and others for the worse, but they all seem to have something to give that I lack: an impact. I want to do something big, I want to make a difference; problem is, I don't think I've received a calling yet. There just isn't anything "big" that I feel like I'm supposed to be doing right now. And even if there was, I wouldn't have time. I'm so caught up in just handling the trivial things in life like work and school that I don't have time for what I consider truly important. But lately the thought has occurred to me that this is important. It is important right now because it is my time of preparation. I don't know that will ever do anything great and world-changing, but I do know that I can do something small and life-altering. I can prepare. And while I'm preparing I can make a difference. I may not be able to solve world hunger or stop abortion, but I can encourage others to do what is right, and practice it right now. Maybe, for the time being, I do have a purpose. That purpose is preparation.

Edith Schaeffer said that the most significant event in someones life is most likely something they do not even remember. Just...something to think about :)
