Thankfullness

Tomorrow I start my senior year. Less than a year from now I will likely be boarded up in a college dorm beginning a new adventure. All of this change, in addition to a pretty rough month, has directed my focus to myself. In light of this unfortunately usual problem, it's a pretty good time for me to reflect on all the blessings I've been given.

I'm thankful for trips to the beach with my family. Kelp green waves and gritty brown sand freckled with pebbles. Annoying hot-dog-stealing seagulls and large, if not graceful pelicans. Jellyfish polluting an otherwise clean shore, their bloated bodies resembling plastic grocery bags. And us.

I'm thankful for my home. One bathroom for nine people can be pretty tight, but in close quarters there's never a room void of love.

I'm thankful for all the "collections" lying around the house. Someone's rocks from the drive-way piled on the kitchen counter, a different siblings paper "dog food" confettied on the bedroom floor, and even the fireflies in an old jelly jar. I'm going to miss these things, but I'm glad they will still exist.

I'm thankful for dragon-flies, even if I can't seem to catch them. They're good exercise and beautiful playmates.

I'm thankful for God, and the life he's blessed me with. Things aren't perfect, and it's often hard, but I wouldn't have it otherwise. I've been blessed abundantly.
