I failed my driving test.

You'd think I'd be too embarrassed to post that in public, but hey, everyone needs a ranting venue. I'm really not that surprised.

The whole thing went poorly from beginning to end. I tried to switch into drive before I started the ignition, I tried to back out of the parking spot three times before she had me back out the other direction. (To be fair (to myself), it was very cramped.)

After I parallel parked, the test-lady asked my to "leave the parking space." So, I turned off the car, unbuckled and started to open the door. "Where are you going?" she asked. "I'm le- Oh! You mean, Oh!" (Just in case she couldn't notice that I'm blond, right?) I think she was a little frustrated with my by this point. "I mean that you need to remove your car from the parking space."

Then, during the left hand turn, I had to turn into a four way street divided by a median (so there were two lanes going the same direction on each side of the median). Of course, since it's an old town, the lanes on each side weren't actually divided- the lines had faded out years ago. So, being the ditsy person I am, I turned into the center of the street. I remember thinking to myself, "gosh, this is a really wide street", then she told me to move into the right lane. Whoops. This is what failed me, she marked that I needed to be "more observant".

The rest of the test consisted of ordinary things, like stopping, turning, backing up, etc. and unordinary things (like someone walking towards me in my lane in a 45 mile per hour zone, though since this is Aransas Pass, it's probably not that weird).

Finally we arrived back at the dps where I parked our hunking suburban- and hit the curb. A beautiful finish to a splendid test. Or not.

Oh, and after telling me I failed, the lady said, "I'm guessing you haven't had a practice permit yet have you?"....
I had a permit for two years. And I took drivers Ed. At home, and officially.

So yesterday it was my calculus test, today it was my driving test, who knows what new failures tomorrow might bring?

Okay, I'll stop being sarcastic now. I don't want to reduce the national morale.

**just so you know, I'm sure they were right in failing me. I'm not complaining, I'm just ranting.

Oh, poor Renee. I embarrassed myself by nicking the edge of the garage with our mini-van the other day, so you aren't alone.
